2024 Winter Meeting Recap

 

The Tennessee Corn Promotion Board members rang in the New Year by meeting the first week of January.  

Before the meeting, Tennessee Senator Paul Bailey spoke about Tennessee Legislature priorities for this year’s legislature. United States Representative John Rose also updated the group on issues at the federal level.

After reviewing university research proposals designed to help farmers increase production efficiency and profitability, the Board of Directors awarded funding for various projects to Tennessee Tech University, Tennessee State University, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Tennessee Martin.

The Board of Directors awarded consumer-facing agriculture education funding to Agricenter International, TN Ag in the Classroom, Tennessee Agriculture Museum, and Farm Animal Care Coalition of Tennessee. Tennessee FFA Foundation and Tennessee 4H Foundation also received funding. 

Three of the original nine Tennessee Corn Promotion Board members, Mike Brundige (Weakley County), George McDonald (Smith County), and Mark Spradlin (Madison County), reached the end of their term of service. Chairman Andy Davis presented appreciation plaques to Mike, George, and Mark.

The Tennessee Corn Promotion Board is funded through a producer checkoff investment of 1 cent per bushel checkoff on all corn marketed in the state and is managed by nine farmer directors. The mission of the Tennessee Corn Promotion Board is to increase the value and sustainability of Tennessee Corn producers through promotion, advertising, market development, and research.
